Manipuri Description

Manipuri is an Indian classical dance originated from Manipur. Manipuri is a dance dedicated to religious and its spiritual experience. Traditional Manipuri dance style represents delicate, lyrical and graceful movements. The purpose is to make rounded movements and avoid any jerks, sharp edges or straight lines. This gives Manipuri its soft appearance and since the foot movements are viewed as part of a composite effort of the whole body. The musical accompaniment for Manipuri dance comes from a percussion instrument called the pung, cymbals, pena, and flute.

Namaste India Festival –Manipuri Dance Performance 0 1169 Article rating: No rating
As part of “Namaste India Festival”, Embassy of India, Astana organized a Manipuri dance performance each at Almaty, Astana and Karaganda on April 2, 4 and 5, 2015 by an ICCR-sponsored Manipuri folk dance troupe from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy. A short film on Manipur was screened before the performance.
Mr. Galym Mutanov, Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was the Chief Guest at the performance in Almaty. Heads of various international organizations, members of diplomatic corps, students of Al-Farabi university and Mahatma Gandhi school, members of Indian community and people from different walks of life attended the performance.
