Navarasa Academy of Performing Arts
Navarasa academy was started in the year of 2004. Navarasa means 9 Rasas which stand for Shringaara (love), Haasya (laughter), Karuna (compassion), Roudra (anger), Veera (courage), Bhayaanaka (fear), Bheebhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (wonder), and Shaanta (tranquility).
It started with an idea of having Dance, Music, Percussions & Yoga under one roof. Very quickly it gained the respect of many and several students started training at Navarasa. Navarasa teaches in a traditional way offering classes in Bharatanatyam, Folk dances, Yoga, Contemporary, Mridangam, Kanjira, Ghatam, Tabla, and Vocal music.
Bharatanatyam, Folk dance, Yoga, and Contemporary are taught by Navarasa's director Anandi Srinivas. Mridangam is taught by Venupuri Srinivas.
Anandi trained under Mrinalini Sarabhai & Dr. Mallika Sarabhai at Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Ahmedabad. She comes from a musical family; Anandi’s father, Late R.K. Perumal, was a famous Flutist. He was with Darpana for almost 40 years and traveled globally. Like her father, Anandi became a leading dancer & choreographer for Darpana & traveled globally as a solo dancer & participated in plenty of dance dramas.
Anandi came to Tampa in 2004 & started the Navarasa Academy. Under her guidance, Navarasa has blossomed & grown into a successful institution.
Navarasa recognizes the arts & culture as central to the individual, national, and international growth.
